Welcome to the website of the Athens Area Human Relations Council, Inc. (AAHRC), a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization located in Athens, GA and founded in 1979 by Rev. David H. Nunnally, Sr. His idea was to implement a series of programs designed to keep the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. alive.
The Athens Area Human Relations Council, Inc. (AAHRC) is a citizen-based organization dedicated to promoting positive & unified human relations in the city of Athens and abroad based upon the philosophy, teachings, and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Our Mission
The AAHRC exists to provide community leadership, support, and direction for the development of educational and social programming addressing multicultural relations in our community. Currently the organization consists of a diverse membership from various surrounding counties. The AAHRC seeks to continue the work of the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in his tireless struggle for non-violent social change and respect for all ethnic and cultural differences.
Our Goals
AAHRC - Goal #1
Re-examine, initiate & support actions designed to improve and bring harmony to multicultural relations in the Athens community and abroad.
AAHRC - Goal #2
Provide a forum for concerned citizens to discuss, work together and render volunteer service to build better human relations in the community.
AAHRC - Goal #3
Continually advocate and maintain the high idealism of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. which provides a framework for social justice for all humanity.
AAHRC - Goal #4
Advocate actions to reduce violence in our homes, streets, and schools.
AAHRC - Goal #5
Build relationships with individuals, groups, and organizations interested in promoting positive multicultural relations.
